I Can Bike OKC June 26-30, 2017

I Can Bike OKC is recruiting volunteers for its learn-to-ride-a-bike camp being held on June 26-30, 2017 at Heritage Hall School (1800 NW 122nd Street, OKC).
The bike camp teaches children and young adults with disabilities to learn a traditional 2-wheel bicycle.  I Can Shine, Inc., national non-profit organization, brings specialized trainers and bicycles to Oklahoma City to conduct the camp.
Each rider attends the same 75-minute session (one hour and 15 minute session) for each of the 5 days (M – F) and is assigned two volunteers that will work with the rider throughout the week.  The volunteers “spot” and walk or run alongside the rider on the bike.  This works great because bonds are formed between the volunteers and riders helpful for encouragement and motivational purposes throughout the week.
The riders will be riding a specialized bicycle designed to teach them to balance appropriately for the entire 75 minutes each day while being accompanied by their assigned volunteers.  Additionally, camp staff will provide fun motivational teaching on a specially designed tandem bike that is generally well received by most riders.
There is a brief orientation meeting for volunteers on Sunday, June 25 at 3 pm for volunteers.
